2017

It’s been a busy year here at NDItech. Among other projects and programs, we’ve assisted with election monitoring, trained political parties on integrating technology, continued to build Civic Innovation networks, and participated in thought-provoking conferences around the globe! As we wrap up the last few days of 2017, we want to share a few of the projects we’ve worked on this past year.

We’ve continued to update, improve, and add to our DemTools. In addition to adding new users to our DemTools family, we launched a SMS feature on the Civi DemTool and added internalization and customization features to our FixMyCommunity tool. We're excited to continue nurturing and growing our DemTools next year.

Just last week, Sarah and Chris attended the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) where we hosted two panels. In addition to addressing issues of disinformation and AI trolling, we--along with the Center for International Media Assistance (CIMA) and the Center for the International Private Enterprise (CIPE)--discussed threats to democracy caused by the weaponization of information and manipulations of access on the internet and shared a Democratic Framework to Interpret Open Internet Principles. Take a look and join the open internet community!

This past year, our partners in the Blockchain Trust Accelerator (BTA)--New America Foundation and Bitfury--developed a proof of concept for “notarizing” important public documents on the blockchain. We piloted this system during Liberia’s national elections in October, where we published three PDF versions of each of the ECC’s statements from before, during and after Election Day onto the blockchain. The BTA plans to build out the system for this proof of concept in the upcoming year.

As we head into 2018, we look forward to continued engagement with political parties, supporting smart cities and fair elections, and bridging the gap between governments and its citizens. From all of us at NDItech, we want to thank you for all your support and wish you a very happy new year! We’re excited for another thrilling year of innovating for democracy!
